Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

Coaching, the way I practice it, is a collaborative exploration. It’s a conversation aimed at increasing your awareness. I will ask you questions to help you see your thoughts and the results you are creating when you think those thoughts. It’s not about “This is what’s wrong with you and here’s how to fix it.” There is nothing wrong with you and you are not broken! I will simply help you to understand what you are currently doing and why, and how that’s impacting your life.

How is coaching different from therapy?

I think of coaching as more practical, more empowering, and more future focused than therapy is. Rather than delving deep into your past, we look at your current thinking and how that’s affecting your life today. However, while coaching can be helpful in any situation and can be used alongside other treatment modalities, it is not a substitute for psychotherapy or other medical care. I am not a trained physician or psychiatrist and cannot offer any medical diagnoses or medical treatment.

If you are unable to stop drinking without withdrawal symptoms, I will not be able to coach you. Coaching is not for people who are physically addicted to alcohol. Please speak to your healthcare provider, since quitting drinking abruptly can be dangerous.
